Gloria

The Filipino Community welcomed Christmas early through music.

On 4 November 2017, the Wellington Filipino Community Choir staged their annual Christmas Concert entitled “Gloria” at the Filipino Community Centre in Petone. Under the baton of choirmaster Robert Ty, the choir serenaded its audience with an array of sacred, popular, romantic, and holiday tunes. The line-up included original Filipino music (in Filipino and in English), a South American lullaby, a Maori song that was gifted to the choir, a Kiwi Christmas carol and some classics that are truly challenging. Some of the songs the choir sang were Light of a Million Mornings, Duerme Negrito (Sleep, My Little One), Deck the Halls, Kampana ng Simbahan (Church Bells), Minsan Lang Kitang Iibigin (I Will Only Love You Once), and the title track, Gloria in Excelsis Deo.

The hall was filled with friends and supporters like the sponsors, builders who volunteered to build the new stage, also present in the concert were the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy led by Ambassador Gary Domingo as well as National MP Chris Bishop.

Proceeds of this concert will go towards the operating expenses of the Filipino Community Centre and the development of the community choir.
