Viva is Hawke’s Bay’s foremost jazz artist debuts in Wellington with a benefit concert entitled Velvet Rhythms. Renowned for her trademark velvet voice and nylon-string guitar accompaniment, Viva brings a fresh, thoughtful and innovative approach to all her song arrangements covering many jazz standards, contemporary blues and some Latin tunes. Viva has wowed many audiences in the Waiheke Island Jazz Festival and has regularly featured in Napier’s Art Deco Weekend concerts and Jazz in the Park series. In 2002, she released her first album entitled Sensual Item.
Velvet Rhythms is a fundraising concert produced by the Bulwagan Foundation Trust which also featured a charity auction with lots of goods and services up for grabs. The concert took place at Bar Bodega (101 Ghuznee Street, Wellington) on 29 October 2005 and started at 8PM.
Viva was backed by a powerhouse cast of Wellington musicians that include Massey University’s jazz piano tutor Kirsten MacKenzie, drummer Roger Sellars of “The Boptet” and “The Vipers” fame and bassist extraordinaire Paul Dyne.
The concert was a success and everyone especially those who won the auction went home happy and raving about their purchase.
